11U A Tritons – Steven Dodd Memorial Champions
The Tritons 11U A team kicked off the summer ball season with a victory at the Steven Dodd tournament in North Surrey.
The Tritons were led by 3 returning players from last year’s Provincial Championship team, Parker Lyons, Dominic Sanchez-Loeb, and Owen Oliver. The team went undefeated in 5 games, with different players coming up big at various times to earn the tournament victory.
During the round-robin games led by clutch hitting from Carter Zeilstra, an all-around game from Mateo Wilson, and excellent pitching from Alek Funk, the Tritons defeated Ridge Meadows 9-4, North Shore 13-8, and Prince George 14-3. The Tritons then went on to defeat the Cloverdale Spurs in the semi-final 11-5, led by some clutch hitting from Madden Haynes, some heads-up baserunning from the speedy Riley McRae, and a stellar pitching performance from Isaac Ezaki and Alek Funk.
In the final, the Tritons played a stout defensive game against the Campbell River Tyees, holding them to just 2 runs over 6 innings. Dominic Sanchez-Loeb handled the catching duties adeptly, and Owen Oliver was rock solid at 1st base. Joe Carter continued his strong play at the plate, leading all Triton hitters. Bowen Bryson and Julian Bogusz had good outings on the mound, and Parker Lyons came in for the 6th to close out the Tyees with only 8 pitches.
What a great start to the summer season for the 11U A Tritons!
