10U Tritons Win Provincial Championship!

The Tritons 10U baseball team are provincial champions after going a perfect 6-0 at the BC Minor Baseball Championship Tournament, held from August 2nd to 4th, 2024, in Kelowna. Playing in the extreme heat, the dominant performance was achieved by the team’s strong hits and outstanding base-stealing ability combined with great pitching and exceptional all-round defensive play.

The 10U Tritons sealed the championship with flawless play on the final day, beating the Ladner Red Sox 9-1 in the semi-final then moving on to beat the Cloverdale Spurs 7-4 in the championship game.

For the team, which had only been together for a short six-week summer ball season, winning the Provincial Championship wrapped up a very successful summer. They achieved a 7-0 record in the league season, won gold at the Abbotsford 10U Mid-Summer Classic and secured silver at the GSL Summer Slam in Tacoma, Washington.

Winning a BC Championship is no small feat and credit goes out to the coaching staff as well as every single player who demonstrated what perseverance, hard work and dedication can achieve.

Each player showed tremendous growth over the season, but their commitment as a team was what ultimately drove their successes. Some notable highlights from the season include:

• Solomon’s base-path speed with 45 runs in the season, making him a consistent threat to opposing teams;
• Taylor’s relentless work ethic and toughness to persevere in high-pressure situations inspired his teammates;
• Buchmann’s reliability to get the hits when they were needed the most, often coming in clutch moments;
• Samson’s eye and arm behind the plate, showcasing his skills as catcher with excellent defensive plays and strong throws;
• Zielstra’s formidable presence on the mound, with his pinpoint accuracy and powerful throws, often leaving batters guessing, especially at critical moments in tournaments;
• Rickerby’s ability to pull out a triple, demonstrating his power at the plate;
• Needham’s unparalleled level of compete and consistency at the plate, making him a key player in both defense and offense;
• Hannela’s versatility and ability to contribute in multiple facets of the game through both great pitching and clutch hitting;
• Wilson’s constant team-first attitude, unwavering focus, as well as his unique left arm pitching, brought reliability, dependability and flexibility to the team;
• Edmondson’s remarkable ability to make the big hits when they were needed most, often turning the momentum of the game;
• Sengara was a dual threat on the field, with his powerful pitching and catching consistently challenging the opposition, especially in pivotal moments;
• Thorpe’s reliability at short stop and consistency when at bat, showcasing his quick reflexes and ability to read the game and make critical plays.

The 10U Tritons’ success was a true team effort, with every player contributing to the overall performance. The coaching staff’s guidance and the players’ dedication were evident in every game they played. The support from parents and families also played a crucial role in the team’s achievements, providing encouragement for the players and leaning in to help whenever possible.
