Winter Association Update!

WRSSBA Families,

We hope you are all enjoying the off-season and finding time to stay connected with the game. Our fall training this year has been another great success, with new advanced-level courses that have been very well received by our players and families. It’s inspiring to see so many of our athletes continuing to build their skills and prepare for another exciting season ahead.

Indoor Training Facility Update

Construction of our new indoor training facility is progressing well and remains on schedule for completion by February 1. This project represents a major milestone for our association and will serve as a cornerstone asset for our baseball community.

We look forward to welcoming everyone to the new building in the coming months.

Umpire Program Update

As we prepare for the 2026 season, WRSSBA remains committed to providing the very best on-field performance and development opportunities for our umpire team. For the upcoming season, our umpire group will be capped at 85 members, which will ensure quality and consistency across all divisions.

We anticipate welcoming back 65–70 umpires and adding 15–20 new officials. For the first time, both returning and new umpires will take part in a selection process designed to identify and support the most dedicated and capable officials for the upcoming season.

Our Umpire-in-Chief, Sheridan Abells, will be contacting last year’s umpires soon to confirm who wishes to return. Recruitment details for new umpires will be shared later this winter.

For any questions, please reach out to Sheridan at woodzpacific@telus.net or (778) 689-3467.

Spring Registration Details

Registration for the 2026 spring season is expected to open in the first week of December with the following deadlines:

  • 15U AA/13U AAA – Registration deadline January 4th
  • 13U AA – Registration deadline January 30
  • All remaining 8U-18U players – Early bird January 30, Late Registration to February 20
  • 5U-7U – Early bird deadline January 30, Late Registration to March 14.

For our 2026 season, there have also been changes to our fee structure.

Volunteer Fee Change

Beginning in 2026, WRSSBA will transition to a new refund-based volunteer fee system designed to improve fairness, simplify administration, and align volunteer hours with the same season.

Under the new model, all families will pay a $100 volunteer fee at registration. To receive a refund, families must complete five hours of volunteer work during the current season. Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the year and include concession shifts, support at spring and summer evaluations, uniform distribution, and other roles as needed by division coordinators.

Head and Assistant Coaches, along with Team Managers, will be eligible to receive this refund at the beginning of the season.

When a family completes their five-hour requirement, they can submit an online form to request their refund. Refunds will be processed either back to the original credit card used for registration or credited to the family’s TeamSnap account for future use.

We understand that some families may not be able to commit additional time to volunteer work. In those cases, the $100 fee will be retained by the association, similar to last year’s volunteer opt-out option.

This system ensures that everyone contributes to the success of our programs, whether through time or financial support. Revenue from unclaimed volunteer refunds plays an important role in WRSSBA’s annual budget, directly supporting equipment, facilities, and player development opportunities across all divisions.

Indoor Training Improvement Fee (ITIF)

Beginning in 2026, all members will see a new Indoor Training Improvement Fee (ITIF) of $60 per player added to their registration. This fee will support WRSSBA building a dedicated reserve fund to support our long-term partnership in the new indoor training facility at Centennial Park.

The ITIF ensures we can meet our future facility obligations, strengthen our equity in the building, and invest in the continued growth of baseball in our community. The fee will run for up to seven years and end once the fund reaches its target.

For more information about how the ITIF works and why it’s important to WRSSBA’s future, please visit our ITIF webpage – https://wrssba.com/indoor-training-improvement-fee/

Spring General Evaluations

For our 11U to 18U players, general Evaluations will be held on February 7, 2026 and February 22, 2026. All players from 11U to 18U (except those in 13U AAA/AA and 15U AA) will be required to attend one of these dates. Please mark your calendars.

All 2026 spring house teams will be finalized by the end of the first week of March.

Thank you to all our players, families, coaches, and volunteers for your continued support of White Rock South Surrey Baseball. Each season is made possible through your dedication and community spirit. With our new facility nearing completion and so many exciting developments underway, 2026 is shaping up to be a tremendous year for our association.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your division coordinator or our new general help inbox at info@wrssba.com.
