2025 Player Evaluations – Feb 9 and Feb 22

WRSSBA Mandatory Player Evaluations 11U, 13U and 15U Divisions

Please note, this does not apply to players who will attend 13U AAA, 13U AA and 15U AA rep team tryouts.

General evaluations have two key purposes:

  1. To ensure players are placed in the correct tier of their division.
  2. To ensure teams are balanced.

General evaluations are mandatory for all players at 11U, 13U and 15U divisions. Non-attendance limits the league’s ability to achieve the points above and can negatively impact the season for others.

This year evaluations will take place at two locations during your player’s selected timeslot:

  1. Hitting – WRSSBA indoor batting cage located at 14600 20th Avenue (same building as Bayside Rugby clubhouse – enter on west side of building).
  2. Pitching, Ground balls & Fly balls – Semiahmoo Secondary School gym located at 1785 148th Street.

Players will need to check in at the WRSSBA Indoor facility at their chosen evaluation time. Players hitting will be evaluated at the indoor facility for approximately 10-15 minutes, then need to be transported by their parents to Semiahmoo Secondary gym. Evaluations at Semiahmoo Secondary will take approx. 30 minutes and players will be evaluated on pitching and defensive skills. The entire process should take 55 minutes per player. There is limited warmup time at each location, so players need to come ready to hit and throw.

Once your player is done at Semiahmoo Secondary, they are free to go and have finished evaluations.

WRSSBA has two dates as options for evaluations, please sign up for one date only – you do not need to attend both dates:

  • Option 1: Feb 9 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
    (11U 1pm-3:25pm, 13U 2:40PM – 4:15PM, 15U 3:30PM – 4:45PM)

Frequently Asked Questions

What equipment should my child bring/wear to evaluations?

Shoes – Players should attend both portions of the evaluations with clean indoor running shoes. Cleats aren’t permitted in the indoor facility or gym.

Attire – Players are prohibited from attending evaluations in any summer ball hats or jerseys or any jersey with their name on it. They will be required to change if they arrive at the evaluations wearing this attire.

Water bottle – Players are welcome to bring a water bottle with them. Any water bottles left behind will be left in the foyer of the WRSSBA indoor facility for retrieval.

Equipment – Each player should wear a protective cup and have their own glove, bat, and helmet (we will have extra helmets and bats available for those players that require them).

What Happens at the Evaluation?

Each player will hit, pitch, and go through some defensive movements. To be as fair as possible, the evaluations will be conducted by independent coaches/evaluators. Scores are kept confidential.

Is there anything I should do to help my player prepare?

Please consider playing catch or taking your player out to hit a few baseballs before the evaluation. This doesn’t need to be substantive, but players who pick up a ball and bat for the first time at evaluations will struggle in relation to their peers.

What Happens If My Player Doesn’t Attend?

If a player is unable to attend the evaluation at their scheduled time, the player’s team placement will be based on the following criteria:

  • Prior year level of playing, (i.e., tier).
  • Post season experience, if applicable.
  • 2024 WRSSBA coach evaluation information
  • Previous years of Fall or Winter Training instructor’s feedback.
  • If no player information is available, the player will be placed in the first tier of their division.

Note: There will not be an alternate evaluation session for the spring season.

If you have further questions regarding the WRSSBA February evaluation session please contact Gabe, our sign-up coordinator, at signup@wrssba.com

Thanks and we will see you at evaluations!
