WRSSBA 11U A Tritons Win BC Provincial Championship

The WRSSBA 11U A Tritons concluded their remarkable run in the BC Minor Baseball Championship Tournament, held from August 2nd to 4th, 2024, by capturing the British Columbia Provincial Championship with a commanding victory in the final. This team who had only been together for the short six week summer ball season, demonstrated what focus, training, commitment and execution can achieve.

In the championship game, the Tritons defeated the top-seeded Abbotsford Angels with a decisive 18-12 victory. The Tritons’ offensive prowess was on full display as they built an early lead. Two home runs that resulted in 5 RBI’s early in the game solidified Tritons lead. Defensively, the Tritons were impeccable, with no errors committed throughout the game and an inspired six inning performance in defence of the plate.

The Tritons advanced to the final by narrowly defeating the Howe Sound Hawks by a score of 4-3 in a tight semi-final. This closely contested match saw the lead shift multiple times. The Tritons’ superior pitching along with their base-stealing ability was once again a key factor, without a single error on defence.

The team also experienced a crushing defeat losing 11-1 to North Delta Rays 2 in the round robin, but worked hard to move past the loss and go on to defeat the top-seeded Abbotsford Angels and earn top seed spot in the playoff round. The 11UA Tritons were placed in an extremely competitive and strong pool – named – the “pool of death” by other teams in the tournament. Over next three days, the sportsmanship and respectful play of the Tritons made them a favourite among other teams at tournament. The Tritons would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the other team’s players who came out to support them in the finals. It really meant a lot!

The Tritons’ success was a testament to the skill, teamwork, and the strategic guidance of their management and  coaching staff: Gabrielle Embley (Team Manager) Cam MacGregor (Head Coach), along with Assistant Coaches: Ian Atkinson, Jeff Lyons, and Nigel Halsted. The management’s skill, resilience and tactical play of the coaches throughout the season underscored their eventual championship triumph.

The WRSSBA 11U A Tritons’ journey to becoming Provincial Champions was fueled by their exceptional performance at the Rumble at the Ridge Tournament where they won silver playing against many AA teams finishing the tournament with a 5-1 record in the oppressive July heat.

Overall, this team finished the season with combined record of 16-3. Many thanks to the team, parents and dedicated  management and coaching staff who together created a season to remember.
